What buyers see at checkout

From the course page to a paid, enrolled student: what the checkout page shows, what happens on Stripe, and what to check if a payment goes through but the course does not appear.

Every sale is charged on your own payment account. This article follows a buyer through checkout on an academy connected to Stripe, which charges in US dollars by card. If your academy is in India and connected to Razorpay, the route is the same but the payment methods differ — the India article is linked at the end.

From the course page to enrolled

  1. The buyer opens your course page and clicks Enroll Now. If they are not signed in, they create an account (or sign in) first.
  2. The checkout page shows the course, its price and a Have a coupon? box. For a $49 course the button reads Pay $49.00 & enroll, with “Secure payment via Stripe” beneath it. With a 100%-off coupon the button reads Enroll for free.
  3. Clicking the button takes them to Stripe's own checkout page, where they enter their card details and pay.
  4. Stripe sends them back to your academy. The page shows Verifying your payment… for a few seconds, then You're enrolled!
  5. The course is now under My courses in their account, and its course page shows Continue Learning.
A free course skips all of this: Enroll Now enrolls the student at once, and you do not need a payment account for it.

Storefront products

A product bought from your store goes through the same kind of checkout: name, email, a phone number and an optional coupon code, with a line that reads “Securely processed by Stripe”. The buyer pays on Stripe's page and lands back in their library with the product unlocked.

What Stripe checkout covers today

  • One-time course sales and one-time storefront products.
  • Payment plans: the buyer pays the first installment at checkout and the rest is collected automatically from the same card.
  • Memberships and other subscription products, billed in US dollars and renewed automatically until the buyer cancels.
  • Payment links you send to individual students, for courses priced in dollars.

Currency and receipts

Stripe charges are in US dollars. The price you type on a course is the price charged — nothing is converted. Every paid order has a receipt page the buyer can print or save as a PDF. It shows the amount paid; it is not a sales-tax or VAT invoice, and Prolaud does not add tax on top of your price.

If a buyer paid and the course is not there

Access is granted when Stripe confirms the payment, usually within seconds. If confirmation is slow the buyer sees Payment received and a note that the course will appear shortly. Stripe tells Prolaud about a payment through a webhook that is created for you when you connect: on the Payouts page, the Stripe card should read Webhook verified.

Which payment methods can buyers use on Stripe?
Cards, in US dollars.
Does Prolaud take a cut of each sale?
No. Prolaud takes 0% on every plan. You pay only your payment processor's standard fee.
Can a buyer pay in installments?
Yes, if you publish the course with a payment plan. They pay the first installment at checkout and the rest is collected automatically.
Can I send one student a payment link on Stripe?
Yes, for a course priced in dollars. A paid link follows the course's currency: a dollar-priced course is charged through your Stripe account, a rupee-priced one through Razorpay. On an academy connected to Stripe alone, give a rupee-priced course a dollar price before sending paid links for it.
