A 5% fee on the entry plan
Podia's Mover plan is $42 a month billed yearly and carries a 5% fee on sales. The fee is removed on Shaker, at $84 a month billed yearly (podia.com/pricing, as of October 2026).
We build Prolaud, so we're not neutral — but everything below is verifiable, and we've flagged where Podia is genuinely the better pick. Decide for yourself.
Podia delivers on simplicity. Selling a course or a download is easy, and email and a community come with it. What it does not have is a classroom: a live room with polls, raised hands and an agenda, a teaching whiteboard, quiz templates built for test prep. Prolaud keeps the setup simple and adds the depth a tutoring business or a serious teacher needs.

The honest verdict
Prolaud is the stronger Podia alternative if teaching, more than selling downloads, is the business. Podia is refreshingly simple: a storefront for courses and digital downloads, with email and a community included. It lists live and in-person events on every plan, but not a classroom with a whiteboard, polls and attendance on the student record. Its entry plan, Mover, is $42 a month billed yearly and carries a 5% fee on sales; the fee goes away on Shaker, at $84 a month billed yearly (podia.com/pricing, as of October 2026). Prolaud takes 0% on every plan including the free Starter plan, runs checkout on your own Stripe or Razorpay account, and builds in the live room, whiteboard, test-prep quizzes and certificates. Podia remains the better choice if you want the simplest possible storefront for downloads and a course or two, with email built in, and you do not teach live.

Why teachers and creators move on
We've onboarded teachers from every category of platform. These are the same complaints, again and again.
Podia's Mover plan is $42 a month billed yearly and carries a 5% fee on sales. The fee is removed on Shaker, at $84 a month billed yearly (podia.com/pricing, as of October 2026).
Podia lists live and in-person events on every plan. What is missing is the room built for teaching: polls, a raised-hand queue, an in-class agenda and recordings with chapters, all on the student's record.
Teaching K-12 math, AP Biology or a coding workshop? You would add a separate whiteboard subscription on top.
Multiple-choice questions and a simple question builder. There are no test-prep templates, no code-review formats and no rubrics for long-form answers.
Podia offers a 14-day free trial and no free plan (as of October 2026). Prolaud's Starter plan is free with no time limit.
What you get instead
Podia bundles a storefront, email and a community, and keeps all three simple. Prolaud bundles the classroom: live classes, a whiteboard, quizzes, certificates and a community sit beside the storefront, with one login and one student record.
You connect your own Stripe or Razorpay account and your students pay you directly. Prolaud never holds the money and never takes a percentage, so every sale shows up in your own processor's dashboard. Whatever Podia's payment option does on your plan, it is worth checking who holds the money between the sale and the payout.
Your students, your courses, your orders: all exportable to CSV or JSON on every plan, including the free Starter plan. There is no "upgrade to export" gate.
On Podia, 0% is something you pay for: the Mover plan carries a 5% fee on sales and the fee goes away on Shaker, at twice the monthly price (podia.com/pricing, as of October 2026). On Prolaud it is 0% on every plan, including the free Starter plan, with checkout on your own Stripe or Razorpay account.

Straight talk
Pick Podia if you value simplicity above depth, sell mostly digital downloads and a course or two, and want email marketing in the same tool. Podia is deliberately lightweight, and its broadcast email is more complete than ours. If you teach live or run cohorts you will outgrow that simplicity. If you do not, it is a clean fit.
Other options worth a look
We compare honestly against each of these too — so you can hold Podia up against the whole field, not just against us.
How to switch
Most teams are fully migrated inside a weekend. You don't lose your roster, your courses, or your branding.
Step 1
Export your student roster from Podia (most platforms offer a CSV under "Students" or "Members"). Map the columns to name, email and phone.
Step 2
Bulk-import the CSV into /dashboard/students. The import matches on email, so running it again is safe.
Step 3
Recreate your courses. The curriculum builder lets you drag modules and lessons, paste video embed URLs and upload PDFs without a wizard. Most teachers move five courses in an afternoon.
Step 4
Apply your brand: logo, primary color, and a custom domain on any paid plan. The portal-template picker has 7 starting points if you want to refresh the look while you are at it.
Step 5
Tell your students you have moved, with the new portal URL. One announcement goes out in-app and by email, and reminders can be scheduled after it.
Stuck mid-migration? Email us — we'll walk through the CSV mapping or migration scripts with you on a call. No upsell.
The switching framework
Score each tool yourself, Podia and us included — these are the questions that actually decide it.
Questions to ask before you switch
Does it ship live cohort tooling that respects classroom dynamics?
Is my data exportable on every plan, including the free tier?
Will my bill stay flat as my sales grow, with no per-sale cut?
Am I paid into my own payment account, or does the platform hold the money?
Can I migrate over a weekend without losing my roster?

Podia is a simple storefront with email and a community, and lists live events on its plans. Prolaud is a classroom with a storefront: the live room has a whiteboard, polls and attendance, and what happens in class lands on the same student record as the purchase. See the whole loop at prolaud.com/loop. This page also spells out where Podia is genuinely the better buy.
Signup takes about a minute and gives you a subdomain, a drag-and-drop course builder and a portal template to start from. The simple path is the default, and the deeper tools are there when you need them.
The course and class forms have a Simple and an Advanced mode, and Simple is the default. Advanced opens the cohort tooling, the certificate designer and the rest. You opt in when you need it.
Yes. Downloads, bundles, memberships, 1:1 sessions, webinars and license keys all sell through the same checkout, on your own Stripe or Razorpay account. Memberships renew automatically until the member cancels, and a cancelled member keeps access to the end of the period they paid for.
Schedule them like any class. Students join the built-in room from their portal, and you get attendance and a recording attached to the class.
Prolaud sends product notifications in-app and by email, and its automations cover welcome, follow-up and abandoned-checkout messages. For newsletter-style broadcast campaigns, Podia Email is more complete; keep a dedicated email tool for those.
