UPI Autopay

Also called: UPI mandate, e-mandate on UPI

An NPCI feature that lets a payer approve a recurring UPI debit once, so later instalments are collected automatically up to an agreed limit, without them approving each one.

It is the Indian equivalent of a card standing instruction, and for education it is what makes instalment plans workable: the student approves once at checkout, and the second and third instalments do not depend on anyone remembering a due date.

The mandate names a maximum amount and a frequency. A debit inside those terms goes through; a change outside them needs fresh approval, which is the protection the payer keeps.

For example

A student approves one mandate for up to ₹5,000 a month. The academy then debits ₹2,000 on the 5th for ten months without the student touching their phone again. Because the cap is ₹5,000 and not ₹2,000, the academy can also collect a one-off ₹1,500 exam fee under the same mandate — anything above ₹5,000 needs a fresh approval.

On Prolaud

Payment plans can collect later instalments automatically by UPI Autopay or card e-mandate through Razorpay, or by emailed reminders if the academy prefers to be asked each time.
