# Assign a quiz to specific students

> To give a quiz to particular students, create the quiz and, under Assign & notify, set Audience to Specific students, then tick the students you want. They are told about the quiz in-app, by email or on WhatsApp, with a link that opens it.

## Create the quiz and choose who gets it

1. Open Quizzes in the left sidebar and click Create Quiz.
2. Give the quiz a title, choose its Course, and add your questions.
3. Scroll to Assign & notify. Under Audience, choose Specific students.
4. Under Pick students, tick each student who should get the quiz.
5. Under Notify via, choose how they are told: In-app, Email, WhatsApp, or any mix.
6. Click Create Quiz. The students you ticked are notified, with a link that opens the quiz.

## The three audiences

- Everyone enrolled — every student in the quiz's course. This is the default.
- Specific students — only the students you tick.
- A community / cohort — everyone in one community. You can also post the quiz to that community's feed.

> **Note:** The list under Pick students shows the students enrolled in the course you chose for the quiz. If a student is missing, enroll them in that course first. If you have not chosen a course, it shows every student enrolled in any of your courses.

## What Audience does and does not do

Audience decides who is told about the quiz. It does not lock the quiz to those students: a quiz is saved with its course, not with a list of who may take it. To keep a quiz to a small group, put it in a course only that group is enrolled in.

### Can I assign a quiz to just one student?

Yes. Under Assign & notify, set Audience to Specific students and tick that one student.

### Can I assign a quiz to a group?

Yes. Set Audience to A community / cohort and pick the community, or choose Specific students and tick each one.

### How do students find out about the quiz?

By the channels you leave switched on under Notify via: In-app, Email and WhatsApp. Each notification links to the quiz.

### Why is a student missing from Pick students?

The list shows students enrolled in the quiz's course. Enroll the student in that course, then create the quiz.
