# Connect Razorpay to get paid (India)

> Razorpay is the payment account for academies in India: students pay in rupees by UPI, card or net banking, and the money settles into your own Razorpay account. These are the steps on the Payouts page, and what to check when a payment does not enroll a student.

The Payouts page offers two payment accounts: Stripe first, then Razorpay under “Or connect Razorpay”. If your academy is in India and your students pay in rupees, Razorpay is the one to connect. Either way the account is your own — Prolaud never holds your money and takes 0%.

## Connect with Razorpay

1. In your dashboard, open Payouts (Workspace → Payouts).
2. Below the Stripe card, under “Or connect Razorpay”, find the Connect Razorpay card.
3. Click Connect with Razorpay. You go to Razorpay to sign in (or create an account) and approve the connection, then come back to Payouts.
4. A banner confirms it: “Razorpay account connected — you can now accept payments.” The card now reads Razorpay account connected and shows your account ID.

> **Note:** If the card shows key fields straight away instead of a Connect with Razorpay button, use the next section — it reaches the same place by a different route.

## Or connect with your own API keys

Under the button is a link, “Advanced: connect with your own API keys instead”. Use it if you already run a Razorpay account and want checkout to use its keys directly. It is also the route that supports automatic installment collection (see below). The card's “New to Razorpay? How to set it up” guide has the same four steps:

1. Create a Razorpay account at razorpay.com with your normal email — a personal Gmail is fine.
2. Activate it (KYC). In the Razorpay dashboard, complete Account Activation: choose your business type (an individual or proprietor is fine), enter your PAN and add the bank account your payouts should reach. Razorpay verifies this, usually within 1–2 working days. You cannot take live payments until it is activated.
3. Generate your API keys. In Razorpay, go to Account & Settings → API Keys and click Generate Live Keys. Copy the Key Id (it starts with rzp_live_) and the Key Secret — the secret is shown only once.
4. Back on Payouts, paste them into Razorpay Key ID and Razorpay Key Secret and click Connect my Razorpay account. The keys are checked with Razorpay straight away.

## Set up the webhook (own keys only)

With your own keys connected, the card reads BYO Razorpay is active and shows a Razorpay webhook block. Students are enrolled, and renewals and refunds recorded, when Razorpay tells Prolaud a payment went through — so the webhook has to be in place.

- Click Set up webhook automatically. Prolaud adds the webhook to your Razorpay account and removes any old ones, and the label changes to Set up.
- If Razorpay refuses, click Add it by hand instead: in Razorpay go to Settings → Webhooks → Add New Webhook, paste the URL and secret shown, and tick the listed events.
- If payments ever stop enrolling students, Repair webhook runs the same set-up again.

## How a ₹500 sale flows

- The student pays ₹500 by UPI, card or net banking in Razorpay's checkout.
- Razorpay deducts its gateway fee. The amount varies by payment method; razorpay.com/pricing has the current rates.
- Roughly ₹485–490 reaches the bank account you registered with Razorpay, typically within two working days (T+2).
- Prolaud's cut is ₹0. The money goes from the student to Razorpay to your bank.

A new Razorpay account can be on a longer settlement cycle for its first few weeks while Razorpay completes its own checks. That is Razorpay's schedule, not money held by us.

## What the Payouts page shows afterwards

- Connected · Razorpay account (or Your Razorpay (BYO)), with the line “Payments settle straight to you · we take 0%”.
- Your earnings — the total received and a table of recent payments, pulled live from your own Razorpay account, with a View on Razorpay link.
- Manage Razorpay — keys · webhook · bank, which opens the connection settings and a diagram of how a sale flows.

## What works on Razorpay

- One-time course and storefront sales, in rupees.
- Payment links you send to individual students, for courses priced in rupees (a dollar-priced course is charged through Stripe).
- Memberships and other subscription products, billed in rupees.
- Payment plans. Automatic collection (UPI Autopay or a card e-mandate) needs your own API keys and the Subscriptions feature enabled on your Razorpay account; an account connected with the Connect with Razorpay button stays on reminder-based collection for now.

## Refunds

A payment taken on your own Razorpay account is refunded from your Razorpay dashboard, not from Storefront → Orders. Prolaud picks the refund up through the webhook and marks the order refunded. A full refund of a course payment removes the student's enrollment; a partial refund leaves it in place.

## Students outside India

Connect Stripe as well. A course priced in rupees can carry a separate set of dollar prices for buyers abroad, charged by card through Stripe — see Course pricing.

### Do I need a company to open a Razorpay account?

No. Razorpay accepts individuals and sole proprietors; you need a PAN and a bank account.

### A student paid but was not enrolled. What now?

Open Payouts → Manage Razorpay and check the Razorpay webhook block. If it does not read Set up, click Set up webhook automatically. Then enroll the student who already paid from their profile — do not charge them again.

### Does Prolaud take a share of UPI payments?

No. 0% on every plan and every payment method. You pay only Razorpay's own fee.
