# UPI Autopay

Also called: UPI mandate, e-mandate on UPI

> A feature of UPI, the instant bank-to-bank payment system used in India, that lets a payer approve a recurring debit once, so later installments are collected automatically up to an agreed limit without approving each one.

It does for UPI what a card on file does elsewhere, and for education it is what makes installment plans workable: the student approves once at checkout, and the second and third installments do not depend on anyone remembering a due date.

The mandate names a maximum amount and a frequency. A debit inside those terms goes through; a change outside them needs fresh approval, which is the protection the payer keeps.

For an academy on Razorpay, payment plans can collect later installments automatically by UPI Autopay or card e-mandate, or by emailed reminders if the academy prefers each one to be approved.
